Judging and Inspection

Judging

Awards
The judged awards that will be presented include the standard awards as well as two optional awards, Promote and Compass, as described in this season's FTC Game Manual Part 1. The Compass and Promote Awards page provides video submission details and submission form. There will be one set of judged awards for the entire Tournament.

Process
There will be a 20 minute interview period with our Judges.  The Judges are anxious to hear about your team and the work you have done, so please come prepared to make the most of your time.  Your team will have 10 minutes for your presentation and the judges will have 10 minutes for questions. Be on time for your judge interview and respect the time limit.  The judges need the time between seeing teams to compile accurate notes from your session.

Bring your engineering notebooks to your Judging session. The judges will collect them.

Due to the size of the judging booths, please limit total number of individuals to 12 per team.

Inspection

Robots, including the Robot Controllers and Driver Stations, will be inspected per the Robot Inspection Checklist and Field Inspection Checklist found in FIRST Tech Challenge Game Manual 1.

There will be 3 inspection stations in the Inspection process: Robot, Phone, and Field. Inspectors will have the appropriate Inspection Checklists at their stations. Teams do not need to bring blank Inspection Checklist forms.

Robot Inspection Station

At the Robot Inspection station, inspectors will inspect your robot per the Robot Inspection Checklist in Appendix B.

If issues are found by the inspectors and your robot is sent back for Rework, you will take your Robot Inspection Checklist form with you. Once the issues have been addressed, you will present your Robot Inspection Checklist to the inspectors.

Once your robot Passes Robot Inspection, you will receive a colored sticker to place on your robot and your completed Robot Inspection Checklist will remain with the inspectors.

Phone Inspection Station

At the Phone Inspection station, inspectors will inspect your Driver Station and Robot Controller phones per the Field Inspection Checklist in Appendix C. Specifically, they will inspect per the following sections:
  • Driver Station Hardware Rules
  • Driver Station (DS) and Robot Controller (RC) Software Rules
You will be assigned a Wi-Fi channel to operate your Robot Controller on. The inspectors will configure your Robot Controller for your assigned Wi-Fi channel. You Robot Controller must remain on your assigned Wi-Fi channel for the duration of the event. Operating your Robot Controller on a Wi-Fi channel other than the assigned channel, unless specifically directed by an FTA, CSA, WTA, or the event Technical Director, is a violation of Tournament Rule <T6>.

If issues are found by the inspections and your Robot Controller and/or Driver Station are sent back for Rework, you will take your Field Inspection Checklist form with you. Once the issues have been addressed, you will present your Field Inspection Checklist to the inspectors.

Once your Robot Controller and Driver Station Passes inspection, you will receive a colored sticker to place on your robot. You will take the partially completed Field Inspection Checklist with you and present it to the inspectors at the Field Inspection station.

Note: if you have more than one Robot Controller or Driver Station, please bring all of them to Phone Inspection. The inspectors will inspect and configure each of them for you.

Field Inspection Station

At the Field Inspection station, inspectors will complete the remaining items on Field Inspection Checklist. Specifically, they will inspect per the following sections:
  • Drive Team Members Present
  • Robot Operation Verified at the Playing Field
  • Queuing Process Information Provided at the Playing Field
If issues are found by the inspections and your robot is sent back for Rework, you will take the Field Inspection Checklist form with you. Once the issues have been addressed, you will present your Field Inspection Checklist to the inspectors.

Once your robot Passes Field Inspection, you will receive a colored sticker to place on your robot and your completed Field Inspection Checklist will remain with the inspectors.
